Mohammed Amine Bouhid Gallery

Mohammed Amine Bouhid Gallery

“A space for art, memory and beauty, where the authenticity of Arabic calligraphy and the spirit of Moroccan ornamentation meet in an experience that safeguards heritage while renewing its expression.”

The gallery: memory of the letter, continuity of the craft

The Mohammed Amine Bouhid Gallery is the first permanent space in Morocco devoted entirely to Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation. It showcases the richness and diversity of this art, part of the Kingdom’s intangible heritage, and offers visitors a complete artistic and cultural experience.

Opened on 15 February 2025 within the Dhunnun Center in Oujda, the gallery extends a cultural and educational path that began when the centre was founded in 2016. Its opening coincided with the inaugural exhibition “Hakaya Al Horouf”. It brings together works by Moroccan and international calligraphers from several schools, alongside works by the centre’s teachers and students.

The gallery is a step towards a larger project: Morocco’s first museum dedicated to Arabic calligraphy, a place of cultural dialogue and a bridge between generations.

A word from the calligrapher

«When I began my journey with the Arabic letter, I did not see it as an art merely to be practised, but as a path to follow — a training of the soul before it is a training of the hand. Over the years I came to understand that the greatest gift a calligrapher can offer is not a work he completes, but a space where beauty is born and lives on after him. From this belief the Mohammed Amine Bouhid Gallery was born: a home for the letter, where art meets knowledge, practice meets teaching, and heritage meets contemporary creation.»
